About

Hi, I’m Steffen. I work at the intersection of software engineering and research, with a focus on infrastructure, automation, and networking. Over the years I’ve moved from building business applications to exploring cloud-native systems and the reliability challenges that come with them.

I enjoy working with tools like Kubernetes, Helm, Ansible, Docker, and Golang, especially when it comes to building repeatable pipelines and making complex systems easier to run. Along the way, I’ve also spent time digging into monitoring, observability, and virtualization.

On the research side, I’ve been looking at DNS, in particular how encrypted DNS and designated resolvers are adopted, configured, and what that means for privacy. I like the balance between practical engineering and asking the bigger “why does this work the way it does?” questions.

Outside of the technical details, I value clear communication, collaborative work, and the ability to break down complex problems into something manageable. This blog is my place to share what I’m learning and thinking about as I keep exploring the space between systems engineering and research.
